Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the latest figure for the number of establishments in Scotland in both service and manufacturing industries that have closed since 1979; and what is the latest estimate of jobs lost as a result.

There are no comprehensive statistics on closures. The following table provides information on the number of closures affecting 10 or more workers notified to the Manpower Services Commission as due to occur in Scotland during the period requested.
