HC Deb 04 June 1984 vol 61 c26W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied with the existing system of regulation of drug companies' advertisements; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The advertising of medicines is subject to regulations made under the Medicines Act 1968. The control of advertisements is secured by a combination of monitoring and enforcement action by the Department, and self-regulation by the pharmaceutical industry. We are keeping the effectiveness of these arrangements under review. At present they are working satisfactorily.
