§ Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson
asked the Secretary of State for the Environment to what extent the three objectives for the South-East region set out in the then Secretary of State's letter dated 7 August 1980 and addresssed to the chairman of the standing conference on London and the South-East regional planning remains the policy of Her Majesty's Government.
§ Mr. Macfarlane
The Government remain firmly committed to the three basic objectives for the region's development set out in my right hon. Friend's predecessor's letter of 7 August 1980. The advice on the impact of the M25 contained in my right hon. Friend's recent draft letter to the chairman of the standing conference is intended to supplement, but not replace, that guidance. The need for further updating will be kept under review.
