HC Deb 23 February 1984 vol 54 c624W
26. Mr. Leigh

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what further measures he will be taking to tighten up security at Her Majesty's prisons in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Scott

As my right hon. Friend has already announced, a number of improvements in security at the Maze were made in the immediate aftermath of the escape from that prison and he has accepted all the recommendations of Sir James Hennessy's report. A special team has been appointed to ensure that they are implemented as soon as possible. The application of recommendations to other establishments is being examined and action will be taken as a matter of urgency wherever changes are appropriate. I and my right hon. Friend will keep closely in touch with progress.
