Mr. John David Taylorasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs why residents of 220W part of the territory of the European Community living in Gibraltar are not eligible to vote in the European Assembly election in June.
§ Mr. RifkindThis was carefully considered when the Community took the decision to move to direct elections. The conclusion reached by the British Government at the time, and by the present Government is that significant legal and practical difficulties stand in the way of Gibraltarian participation in elections to the European Parliament.
