HC Deb 02 February 1984 vol 53 c326W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what sums were paid by the United Kingdom Intervention Board in 1983 for intervention in respect of butter, including storage, storage aid, export refunds and all other outgoings.

Mr. MacGregor

Final figures will not be available for some time yet. However, it is provisionally estimated that total gross spending in 1983 by the Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce on support for butter was £338 million. Total net spending, allowing for sales of intervention butter amounting to £6 million and receipts of £117 million from the EC budget, was £215 million.
