§ Mr. Steelasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish the expected timetable for the starts and completions of the east and west sections of the dual carriageway bypass south of Edinburgh; and whether on completion this route will be given trunk road classification.
§ Mr. YoungerThe timetable for the construction of the Edinburgh city bypass is the responsibility of Lothian regional council. Work on the Sighthill section is under way and I understand that completion is expected in the latter half of 1987. According to the latest information available to my Department the time table for the remaining sections is as follows:
Section Start Completion Burdiehouse mid-1986 early-1989 Gilmerton late-1987 late-1989 Millerhill late-1986 late-1988 Progress of works will depend upon planning and land acquisition procedures, and the availability of resources.
I have at present no proposals to trunk the completed bypass.
