HC Deb 10 December 1984 vol 69 c348W
Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland has approved the demolition of Divis flats in Belfast; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chris Patten

Following a review of priority and difficult to let estates, carried out by the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, I have approved the demolition of the St. Brendan's and Pound blocks of flats, a total of 87 units of accommodation, as part of a package of proposals to improve living conditions. It is not intended to demolish the remaining eight blocks of flats in the Divis complex.
