HC Deb 10 December 1984 vol 69 c348W
Mr. Beggs

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many applications for urban development grant have been received to date since the scheme was introduced (a) from Belfast and (b) from Londondeny; what is the total expenditure paid out in grants for (a) Belfast and (b) Londonderry , and if the Department of the Environment has given consideration to extending the scheme to other areas in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Chris Patten

The information to 30 November 1984 is as follows:

Applications received Grant paid £ million
Belfast 583 1.5
Londonderry 161 0.1

In addition, offers of grant totalling 3.5 million in Belfast and £0.4 million in Londonderry have been made.

The scheme is targeted towards areas of greatest need and I do not consider it should be extended.
