§ Mr. Alfred Morrisasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what research his Department has undertaken or financed on reducing the incidence of miscarriage following amniocentisis.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeFor research of this type we look to the Medical Research Council, which receives its main support as a grant-in-aid from the Science Vote under the Department of Education and Science. The Health Departments made the council aware of their concern about the potential hazards of amniocentisis. As a result, a MRC working party carried out an assessment of these hazards which was published in theBritish Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1978.
