HC Deb 01 August 1984 vol 65 cc363-4W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether it is customary for counselling to be given to women impregnated by artificial insemination by donor, and to donors; and if he will make a statement on the structure and location of such counselling.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

We do not hold this information centrally. I am advised that as a principle of good practice the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists recommends that counselling should be given to couples seeking AID.

Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will now publish a list of the centres where artificial insemination by donor services are available.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

We do not hold this information centrally. I understand the inquiry into human fertilisation and embryology was told that there are about 35 places in the United Kingdom where an AID service is available.
