HC Deb 25 April 1984 vol 58 c516W
Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will institute an inquiry into the safety of brake parts for passenger aircraft.

Mr. David Mitchell

I have no evidence which would give cause for an inquiry. Components used in aircraft brakes are designed to satisfy detailed airworthiness requirements and are subject to strict quality control in manufacture. The manufacture, maintenance and overhaul of civil aircraft and their components may only be conducted by companies approved by the Civil Aviation Authority. I have no reason to believe these procedures have not been adequate in achieving and maintaining a satisfactory level of safety. If the hon. and learned Gentleman has any cause for disquiet, perhaps he will send me full details.
