HC Deb 09 April 1984 vol 58 c72W
Mr. Rowe

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will estimate the amount of money that could be saved in a full year if the thermostats in the Palace of Westminster were to be kept at 2° below their present levels.

Sir George Young

I would draw the attention of my hon. Friend to my written answer of 21 November 1983 to my hon. Friend the Member for Dumfries (Sir H. Monro) at column33. I cannot give a precise figure, but a reduction of 2 degrees F. could give rise to savings of around £12,000–£14,000.
