§ Mrs. ChalkerAll DVLC staff with access to information from the vehicle register are required to observe its confidentiality, and their inquiries of the computer are recorded. All requests for information from the register are carefully checked to ensure that they comply with guidelines designed to protet confidentiality. The Department's current practices in this area meet the broad principles laid down by the Data Protection Bill, but the opportunity has been taken to review the basis for the release of information from the register with a view to more closely controlling release of data.
