asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will take steps to bring about a freeze on construction of the illegal Israeli settlements on the reoccupied west bank and thereby assist the peace process in the middle east.

Mr. Hurd

We have often made clear to the Israeli Government our view that Israeli settlements in the occupied territories are both illegal and an obstacle to peace, and have urged them to accept President Reagan's call for a freeze on settlements.
