§ Mr. Banksasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will set out the current programmes of United Kingdom aid in Mauritius and their value.
§ Mr. RaisonOur aid programme for Mauritius comprises capital aid and technical co-operation worth in total about £1.5 million a year. There are two extant project loans, each for £5 million: the earlier loan is fully committed and only £500,000 remains to be spent; over £2.5 million has so far been committed from the later loan and nearly £2 million of that spent. Current capital projects are mainly in the infrastructure field. Under technical cooperation arrangements, we finance principally the services of a small number of British personnel in Mauritius and those of British consultants, and the training of Mauritians in the United Kingdom.
