§ Mr. Carter-Jones asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give the number of neonatal intensive care cots available by hospital and region per 1,000 births in 1980; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Allan Stewart:Neonatal intensive care is provided in five units in Scotland. It is not possible to identify the number of cots designated for intensive care only as these are normally within combined intensive and special care units; the average number of available cots in these units for the year to 30 September 1980 is set out as follows. It would not be meaningful to express these figures as a rate per 1,000 births because referrals to the hospitals concerned are not limited to the local health board area.
