HC Deb 26 October 1981 vol 10 cc251-2W

Mr. Carter-Jones asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give the number of specialist paediatric surgeons in each area health authority per 1,000 births; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Allan Stewart:

The whole-time equivalent figures at 30 September 1980 are set out as follows. Although there are surgeons with a commitment to paediatrics elsewhere, posts as consultant paediatric surgeons exist in only the Greater Glasgow and Lothian health board areas. Some children treated in Greater Glasgow and Lothian accordingly come from other parts of Scotland.
