The size of the advanced further education pool for 1982–83 will be determined by my right hon. Friend after consultation with the local authority associations, in the context of the forthcoming rate support grant settlement.

§ Mr. WaldegraveLocal education authorities' claims on the advanced further education pool, in the form of actual expenditure figures or forecasts as the case may be, cover all years up to and including the financial year 1982–83. The Department does not collect expenditure returns pertaining to advanced further education in individual institutions except on a sample basis. The advanced further education pool allocations to authorities in respect of 1982–83, along with revised allocations in respect of 1981–82, will be announced before the end of 1981
§ Mr. Whiteheadasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether the work of the expenditure steering group (education) during 1981 produced evidence which has subsequently affected the assumptions concerning future staff-student ratios in institutions of advanced further education.
§ Mr. WaldegraveThe Government are currently considering their expenditure plans for advanced further education for the years beyond 1981–82, including the assumptions to be made with regard to future staff-student ratios. That consideration will take account of relevant analysis which the expenditure steering group (education) has undertaken during 1981.
