HC Deb 13 November 1980 vol 992 c440W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) how many, and which, State corporations are permitted to borrow from the market with or without State guarantees;

(2) how many, and which, State corporations are confined to borrowing from the national loan fund and EEC institutions.

Mr. Biffen

I refer my hon. Friend to appendix 111 of Cmnd. 7131, which describes the borrowing arrangements for nationalised industries. These remain unchanged so far as source of funds is concerned.

Mr. Skeet

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when the Treasury working party set up to examine whether State corporations should be permitted to borrow from the market without adding to the public sector borrowing requirement is expected to report.

Mr. Biffen

All borrowing by nationalised industries and other public corporations contributes to PSBR financing whatever the source. The working group will report to the Treasury and Nationalised Industries Chairmen's Group on the outcome of its deliberations in due course.
