§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has to increase the size of prisons in England and Wales or to order the building of any new prison complexes within the foreseeable future.
§ Mr. BrittanMost existing prisons cannot be increased in size. Four new establishments are planned to start by the end of the financial year 1982–83. The subsequent building programme remains under review.
