§ Mr. Skeetasked the Secretary of State for Energy which organisations are to assume the functions of the following bodies after their demise: the Advisory Committee on Fixed Offshore Installations, the Advisory Council on Energy Conservation and the Severn Barrage Committee; and what will be the economies achieved.
§ Mr. David HowellThe information requested is as follows:—
388WAdvisory Committee on Fixed Offshore Installations—disbanded March 1980. Its functions have been discontinued.
Severn Barrage Committee—is concluding its work and will be abolished during 1981; its functions will then cease.
Advisory Council on Energy Conservation—has not been abolished; it has, however, been slimmed down from 25 to 15 members. The Council continues to play an important role in promoting energy conservation in the United Kingdom.
Expected economies in respect of these bodies are as follows:—
ACOFOI—£6,000 pa.
Severn Barrage Committee—set up in 1978 with a limited life. Secretarial/support costs of some £5,000 pa. will no longer be incurred on termination of its work.
ACEC—£1,000 pa (as a result of reduced membership).
