HC Deb 08 August 1980 vol 990 cc441-2W
Mr. Wilkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he will announce the revised cash limits resulting from his statement about public expenditure on 6 August.

Mr. Humphrey Atkins

The increase of £48 million in resources available to Northern Ireland this year announced in the reply I gave on 6 August to my hon. Friend the Member for Knutsford (Mr. Bruce-Gardyne).—[Official Report, c. 85.] entails changes in the cash limits for both Northern Ireland Departmental services (NID 1) and for the Northern Ireland Office on law and order and protective services (class XV, Vote 1).

The changes for NID 1 result in a net transfer from cash limited items to non-cash limited items. This, plus a reduction of £4 million on account of the overspend on NID 1 which occurred in 1979–80, means a reduction in the cash limit for MID I by £15 million, to £1,596 million.

Subject to parliamentary approval of its Supplementary Estimates, the 1980–81 cash limit for expenditure by the Northern Ireland Office on law, order and protective services (class XV vote 1) has been increased by £11041 million to £296196 million.
