§ Mr. Campbell-Savoursasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many jobs in Lancaster were being supported in 1978 by way of allocation from the Manpower Services Commission; and how many jobs the Department expects to be supporting in 1981, disregarding the short-time working compensation scheme.
§ Mr. Jim LesterI am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that a total of 216 people was provided with training or job opportunities under the youth opportunities programme and the special temporary employment programme in the period 1 April 1978 to 31 March 1979.
It is not possible to forecast the level of assistance in 1981 under the special 447W employment measures as the programme of measures is reviewed annually. The current programme operates until 31 March 1980 and we shall be reviewing all the measures later in the year to determine the programme for 1980–81.
