HC Deb 04 July 1979 vol 969 cc639-40W
Mr. Heddle

asked the Minister of Transport what consultations he is planning on the implications of the proposed increase in heavy lorry axle weights from 32 tonnes to 44 tonnes as recommended by the European Economic Community.

Mr. Fowler

I have said that the independent inquiry into lorries and the environment, which I announced to the House on 22 May [Vol. 967, c. 108], must, in particular, face squarely the issue of lorry weights. In the meantime, I have no plans for formal consultation on the current EEC draft directive on this subject.
