HC Deb 04 July 1979 vol 969 c614W
Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Trade how much chrysotile has been imported into the United Kingdom from Cyprus in each of the last 10 years: and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Parkinson

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 15 June 1979; Vol. 968, c. 363], gave the following answer:

Details of United Kingdom imports of asbestos from Cyprus are as follows:

Thousand Tonnes
1969 6.09
1970 6.79
1971 6.96
1972 8.94
1973 7.77
1974 6.76
1975 8.29
1976 7.53
1977 7.81
1978 5.40

White asbestos—Chrysotile—is not separately distinguished in the Overseas Trade Statistics, but the bulk of trade is likely to be in this form of asbestos.
