§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will make a statement on the current position of the United Kingdom's trade with Malta, with particular reference to whether the European Economic Community is supporting our stand on tighter quotas from Malta; and if he could make a statement.
§ Mr. Parkinson, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 2 July 1979], gave the following answer:
615WA further round of negotiations between the EEC Commission and the Maltese took place on 28 June and resulted in an agreement by the Maltese to restrict their exports of clothing and textiles to the Community. The levels negotiated for the United Kingdom are generally close to, and in some cases below, the level of 1978 trade. The Maltese have undertaken to lift the embargo which they had placed on the import of United Kingdom textiles and clothing.
