HC Deb 05 February 1979 vol 962 cc78-9W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will now arrange for a review of all planning applications refused in recent years which would have succeeded under the new policy resulting from the Cockcroft report.

Mr. Carter

No. The Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland as planning authority has no power to alter a decision to refuse planning permission once it has been issued. Any person who has been refused permission to build in the countryside either by the Department or after appeal to the Planning Appeals Commission may, however, get in touch with his local divisional planning officer who will be able to give advice on the new rural policy.
