HC Deb 05 February 1979 vol 962 c79W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the total area in Northern Ireland encompassed by the line drawn around each urban area which is in accordance with the recommendations in the Cockcroft report regarding development in centres of population of 2,000 and 10,000 persons.

Mr. Carter

The area included in the boundaries of the proposed areas of special control for urban areas with populations of 2,000 or more, and 10,000 or more, which is referred to in the document "Policy for the Control of Development in Rural Areas" published by the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland, is approximately 635 square miles. This excludes urban Belfast but includes towns within the greater Belfast Area.
