§ Dr. SummerskillAn application for an increase in London taxi fares was received in July 1977 and fare increases averaging 10 per cent. were authorised in December 1977. At the same time, the Price Commission was directed to conduct an examination of prices, costs and margins in the provision of taxi and868W private hire car services throughout Great Britain. The Price Commission submitted its report to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection, at the end of August 1978. On 9th October representatives of the London taxi trade submitted an application for a further increase in London taxi fares. This will be considered when the present consultations on the Price Commission's report have been completed.
