HC Deb 24 October 1978 vol 955 c867W
Mr. David Price

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will introduce legislation to seek to establish two categories of murder—capital and non-capital murder—on the basis of an amended version of the Homicide Act 1957.

Mr. John

No.

Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will publish figures of murders committed during the last five years ended 1977 for which convictions were, and were not, obtained.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

In a case of homicide it is not possible in the absence of a court decision to distinguish between offences of murder, manslaughter and infanticide. Tables 9.2 and 9.3 of Criminal Statistics, England and Wales, 1977—Cmnd. 7289—show the information for homicide over the period 1973 to 1977.
