HC Deb 23 March 1978 vol 946 c689W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will agree to the extra allowances being claimed by the prison officers at Dartmoor and the Isle of Wight.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

Any settlement of the claim by the Prison Officers' Association for an additional allowance including the cost of three ferry passes a year to the mainland, for staff serving at the three Isle of Wight prisons would have to be within current pay policy. I hope that it will prove possible to reach such a settlement in the course of the negotiations on the next pay increase for the Civil Service which are now in progress with all the staff associations concerned.

No claim has been received on behalf of prison officers at Dartmoor.
