§ Mr. Rookerasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many households in Great Britain were headed by either a man or woman aged under 21 years in 1976 or at the latest available date; and how many of these households contained one or more children.
§ Mr. DeakinsThere is no information available on the number of households headed by persons under the age of 21, although the General Household Survey provides information on households headed by persons under the age of 20. The best estimate from this source for 1976 is that there were about 50,000 households in Great Britain where the head was under the age of 20; this is subject to a wide margin of error and the true figure could be as low as 30,000 or as high as 70,000, and of these approximately half contained one or more children.
