Mr. John Moore

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will publish figures showing gross fixed investment in new plant and machinery per head of those working in manufacturing industry, excluding nationalised industries, in the United Kingdom in (a) current and (b) 1976 prices for each year since 1960.

Information on gross fixed investment and employment for manufacturing industry excluding nationalised industries is not available for the whole of the period requested. In the table below, investment in plant and machinery per head of employment for manufacturing including nationalised industries is given at current and 1970 prices. Figures for investment at 1976 prices are not available.
