HC Deb 01 August 1978 vol 955 c312W
Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many people are resident in bed-and-breakfast establishments because there is insufficient publicly owned accommodation available.

Mr. Armstrong

It is estimated that at the end of June 1977 about 900 households accepted by local authorities as homeless were temporarily resident in bed and breakfast establishments in England. However, no information is available to indicate how many of these are resident because of insufficient publicly-owned accommodation.

Estimates for later periods of the numbers of homeless households temporarily resident in bed and breakfast establishments will be available very shortly, and I will write to the hon. Member.
