HC Deb 11 November 1977 vol 938 c276W
Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Minister of Overseas Development whether she will list the projects upon which the TUC has so far expended its grant of £75,000 each year out of the overseas aid budget; and what steps her Department is taking to monitor the TUC's expenditure.

Mr. Tomlinson:

I understand from the TUC that the grant has so far been used for a conference of Commonwealth trade unionists attending the ILO Conference held in Geneva earlier this year, and on training in Britain for trade unionists from Cyprus, Kenya and Barbados. As regards monitoring, the TUC administers the grant within the terms of an agreed memorandum setting out the purposes for which it can be used. An annual progress report on the grant has to be submitted to my right hon. Friend. There is also regular informal contact between my Ministry and the TUC on various matters related to the use and administration of the grant.
