Mr. David Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in theOfficial Report a table showing the number of companies in each of the following categories: (a) with pre-tax profits of up to £30,000 a year and (b) with pre-tax profits of between £30,000 and £100,000 per year.

Following are the latest figures available, relating to accounting periods ending in 1971–72:

The corresponding figures at the present time would be affected by the impact of stock relief on the distribution of companies by size of taxable income, on which not enough information is yet available to make estimates.
