HC Deb 02 August 1976 vol 916 cc598-9W
Mr. David Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in theOfficial Report a table showing the number of companies paying the small business rate of corporation tax for each year from 1972 to the latest available date.

Mr. Denzil Davies

The small companies rate of corporation tax applies to profits arising on or after 1st April 1973. It is not yet possible to provide any precise estimate of the number of companies paying corporation tax at the small companies rate, since sufficient information is not yet available concerning the impact of stock relief on the distribution of companies by size of taxable income, but it is thought that over 95 per cent. of all companies either have no liability or are eligible for the small companies rate or marginal small company relief.
