§ 28. Mr. Willeyasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will make a statement on the steps taken to deal with the problem of unemployment in Sunderland.
§ Mr. John FraserThe measures announced on 24th September were designed to mitigate the worst effects of unemployment in all parts of Great Britain. These measures included a grant of £30 million to the Manpower Services Commission to establish a job creation scheme; Sunderland has already benefited from this scheme with the establishment yesterday of a job creation project, sponsored by the Sunderland Borough Council, employing 25 people, mostly young people, who will be engaged on clearing and improving the foreshore.
