HC Deb 11 November 1975 vol 899 cc641-2W
Mr. Kinnock

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about the arrest of Dr. Sheila Cassidy, a British subject by security police in Chile, indicating where and under what charges and in what conditions she has been held by the Chilean authorities.

Mr. Rowlands

Dr. Cassidy was arrested in Santiago on 1st November. After protests to the Chilean authorities about the lack of access, Her Majesty's Consul was allowed to visit Dr. Cassidy in Tresalamos prison on 7th November. She was in good health. We do not know on what charges she is being held. The Chilean Government allege that she treated a wounded fugitive extremist. We continue to press the Chileans strongly for a full official account of the case.
