asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he now expects to receive a detailed application for subsidy approval from the London borough of Lewisham for its proposed purchase of properties in Coniston Road, Bromley.

Mr. Freeson:

The council hopes to submit its application next week.

52. Mr. Bates

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he has to assist local authorities who wish, by consent, to purchase privately-owned housing.

Mr. Freeson:

Circular 70/74 enables local authorities to acquire privately owned housing in certain circumstances.

64. Sir Nigel Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, in order to reduce public expenditure, he will issue a circular advising local authorities to discontinue the policy of purchasing private accommodation.
