HC Deb 07 April 1975 vol 889 c357W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about the hanging of Zimbabwe freedom fighters by the illegal Smith regime; and if he will make it his policy that the Rhodesian rebels will be held responsible for such acts after legality is restored.

Miss Joan Lestor

I understand that three men sentenced to death in November 1974 for alleged "acts of terrorism" were executed at Salisbury Prison on 28th February. These were the first such executions reported since August 1974. As I said to the hon. Member on 1st May 1974—[Vol. 872, c. 382]—if at any time a person against whom there is evidence of a criminal offence in respect of illegal executions in Rhodesia comes within the jurisdiction of the courts of this country, it will be for my right hon. and learned Friend the Attorney-General to consider whether criminal proceedings should be commenced.
