asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many of those registered as wholly unemployed on the South Shields register at the latest available date are under 30 years of age and how many are over 60 years of age; and what are the comparable figures for 12 months previously.

Mr. John Fraser

On 8th July 1974, the latest date for which figures by age are available, 1,607 unemployed people in South Shields were aged under 30 and 355 were aged 60 and over. The corresponding figures for 9th July 1973 were 1,414 and 405 respectively.
