HC Deb 26 March 1974 vol 871 cc73-4W
Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many unemployed persons of each sex claiming benefits were ineligible for both national insurance and supplementary benefits for each year since 1964 up to the latest available date.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

The following table, however, sets out the number of unemployed persons who were registered at employment exchanges on a specific date in November of each year, and who on that date were for any reason not in receipt of either unemployment benefit or supplementary benefit.

Males (thousands) Females (thousands)
1964 57 36
1965 57 32
1966 89 41
1967 93 39
1968 97 34
1969 112 34
1970 118 35
1971 133 44
