Mr. Stainton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many telephones, home aids and dwelling adaptations, respectively, have been provided per each 1,000 population by Ipswich County Borough, West Suffolk County Council and East Suffolk County Council under Section 2 of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970; and what steps are envisaged to ensure that such mandatory requirements are fully discharged.

The latest information available to my Department is for the 12 months ending 31st March 1973 and includes provision under Section 45 of the Health Services and Public Health Act 1968 as well as Section 2 of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970. The number of households assisted per thousand of the population was as follows:

Installation of telephones Personal aids Adaptations to dwellings

East Suffolk CC .18 3.5 .21

Authorities have been reminded of their duties under Section 2, but I shall keep a close watch on the situation.
