HC Deb 26 March 1974 vol 871 c73W
Mr. Sedgemore

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people in Great Britain were living, (1) below the poverty line, and (2) within 10 per cent. of the poverty line as defined by the Supplementary Benefits Commission on 28th February 1974 or on the nearest available date, and if she will break down the numbers into the following five broad categories: old, sick and disabled, fatherless families, low income large families and long-term unemployed, i.e. unemployed for over six months.

Mr. O'Malley

The latest date for which estimates can be made is the end of 1972. I shall send them to my hon. Friend as soon as they are complete.
