Mr. Blaker

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when he expects to be able to take a decision about the representations made to him regarding assistance to horticultural growers on account of the sudden increase in the cost of fuel.

Mr. Moyle

I am giving this matter urgent consideration with a view to reaching an early decision, but the hon. Member will appreciate that horticulturists are not alone in facing higher prices for oil products.

Mr. Boscawen

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will take action designed to save producers of early crops of tomatoes, lettuces and cucumbers in Somerset from going out of business through the effects of oil prices and unfair competition from abroad.

Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in view of the difficulties faced by the horticultural industry, if he will seek powers to reduce the cost of heating oil to the industry and to allow a rebate on expenditure during the winter.

We are fully aware of the industry's concern about this matter and are currently considering it.
