HC Deb 28 June 1974 vol 875 cc20-1W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will institute an inquiry into ways in which education costs could be met from central revenues without prejudicing local control.

Mr. Prentice

No. Local authority expenditure, whether on education or other services, is primarily a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment who, as indicated in recent Government statements, is considering the problem of local government finance.
