asked the Chancellor of Exchequer if he will make provision for the payment of the new rate of regional employment premium for male workers to be in the form of share purchases in recipient companies.

My right hon. Friend has no plans of this nature. Such a step would not be possible under existing legislation.

Mr. Kinnock

asked the Chancellor of Exchequer what consultation he has had with the European Economic Commission about the increase in REP payments announced in his statement of 23rd July.

There is no requirement for consultation. The Commission was informed about the increase.
