HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 cc330-1W
36. Mr. Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, in order to reduce deaths of children from drowning at the seaside, he will take steps to regulate the use of inflatable rafts and dinghies.

Dr. Summerskill

I have been asked to reply.

The danger of young children using inflatable rafts and dinghies is fully appreciated. The Home Office has recently written to the manufacturers and importers of airbeds asking them to place labels on their products warning of the dangers of taking them on to open water. The Working Party on Water Safety will consider what further action is needed.
